Ghost in the Shell the 1995 anime is a subplot from Shirow’s manga on consciousness and the philosophy of the self. The animation follows cyborg federal agent Maj. Motoko Kusanagi on a case to catch “The Puppet Master”, who illegally hacks into the computerized minds of cyborg-human hybrids. Her pursuit makes Motoko ponder her own makeup and what life might be like if she had more human traits.
